Staying in the proper lane can prevent car accidents

Just as anywhere else, Ohio’s traffic laws are designed to keep the flow of travel smooth and to prevent vehicles from trying to occupy the same space at the same time. For instance, when people fail to stay in their lane, car accidents happen. The best way to avoid this happening is to pay attention to where the vehicle is at all times.

It’s possible that inattention led to a crash that ruined the Memorial Day weekend for some people and their families. At around 8:45 a.m. on May 25, 2019, two vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 23. The preliminary investigation conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol revealed that both vehicles traveled northbound on the highway.

The first vehicle pulled into the center turn lane in order to enter a private driveway to its left. As it sat waiting to turn, the second vehicle veered into that lane for some reason, failed to stop and rear-ended the first vehicle. The 69-year-old man driving the first vehicle and his 71-year-old passenger both suffered moderate injuries for which they were transported to a hospital in the area via helicopter. The 22-year-old driver of the second vehicle reported no injuries, but his 29-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries.

The victims involved in this crash could file personal injury claims against the driver of the second vehicle once they are able. As is the case in other car accidents, the information garnered from the investigation could prove useful in showing the court that driver was negligent. Prevailing in this endeavor could result in an award of damages to help with the financial losses incurred in connection with this accident.
