Three-vehicle accident kills one, seriously injures three

Sorting out the split-second events that led to death or serious injury in an automobile collision can be a difficult, painstaking task. Sometimes, the chain of events is clear or easily inferred from the post-accident position of the vehicles and accident debris. A recent three-vehicle collision near the intersection of Ohio Highway 101 and Ohio Highway 2 in Margaretta Township appears to fall in the latter category. One vehicle was southbound on Hwy. 101, and the second vehicle was eastbound on Ohio Highway 2. The southbound vehicle was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Highway 101 onto eastbound Hwy. 2. The eastbound vehicle appears to have been making an effort to transfer from Hwy 2 to northbound 101 when it failed to obey a stop light and struck the southbound vehicle in its driver’s side. Police have not yet determined whether any of the injured persons, the drivers or the deceased victim were wearing seat belts. The driver of the southbound vehicle suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken to Cleveland Metro Medical Center. A passenger in the southbound vehicle died from the injuries that she suffered in the collision. The driver of the eastbound car also suffered debilitating injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police have not announced a likely cause of the accident, but they have said that alcohol and/or drugs are believed to have played a role in the collision. Police have said that they are continuing their investigation.Anyone who has been injured or lost a loved one in a car accident may wish to investigate the possibility of recovering damages from the party whose negligence caused the accident. An experienced accident attorney can provide a useful analysis of the evidence and an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
