Those not directly involved in car accidents can suffer as well
The poor judgment and mistakes of some drivers are not always confined to one or two vehicles. Drivers who are not part of the initial car accidents could also end up suffering serious or fatal injuries as they attempt to avoid the impact unfolding in their paths. In doing so, some meet a serious or deadly fate.Ohio State Highway Patrol officers recently responded to a crash that happened on a Saturday night at around 10 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene on State Route 73, they found three vehicles, a pickup truck, a car and an SUV. The preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck, which was headed northbound, veered into the southbound lane and struck the car.In an attempt to avoid the crash, the driver of the SUV turned right off the roadway. Sadly, it then struck a culvert, which sent the SUV flying into a line of trees. The 27-year-old driver did not survive the injuries he suffered, but his passenger did. In fact, reports indicate no other injuries occurred. The OSHP continues to investigate what led to this tragedy. In the meantime, the family of the deceased driver may exercise its right to file a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed responsible for his death. In order to prevail in such an action, surviving family members will need to prove to the court that the negligence or recklessness of another party led to the demise of their loved one. If successful, the court may award damages allowed in car accidents under Ohio law.
